Underpinning Historic Building Wellingborough

Colwin Group were appointed to underpin the stone walls of a historic building in Irchester which were Grade I listed. The stone walls were constructed with a rubble fill on corbel foundations. The structures were extremely fragile and therefore raking shores were installed on concrete pads, both sides to provide stabilisation and safe access for the excavation. Traditional mass concrete underpinning was undertaken in hit and miss sequence and sacrificial props were installed to support the rubble fill.
